Learnings From The Little One

I love my little boy!  Daddy is in charge of bath time on bath nights and we fill the tub up with bubbles and throw the toys in.  I scrub him down from head to toe and then we splash!  The other morning I peeked in after early morning basketball and he was just sitting in his crib holding his tiger and he squeeks out “dada” in his high pitch excited voice.  Often in the morning when its time for the little guy to be the big helper with breakfest I’ll say “lets go down stairs and make breakfast” and then I’ll sit on the top step and he’ll climb up on my back and get a piggy back ride down stairs.  He’s pretty good at opening the cupboards and pushing down the toast and starting the coffee.  He wants to be a part of it all.  On waffle day he eats more than me.  A couple days ago the snow was melting and we put on his boots and went puddle stomping.  After a half hour I was smiling to myself about how I had caught him each time he was about to fall and get soaked.  It was about that same time that mom came home and he took off running only to wipe out in the puddles.  I love taking turns chasing him around the house and then having him chase me.  I love sneaking in with Jen before we go to bed and covering him up with a blanket and seeing this little body that goes so hard all day resting in sleep.

These are just a few of the things I’m loving and each of these reflections is great by themselves but they have been shaping my understanding of God.  He’s my scrubber and splasher, he’s my piggy back ride, he feeds me, he catches me often but is not afraid to let me fall and make a mess, sometimes it feels like I’m chasing after him and other times I can’t help but see how he’s chasing after me, or maybe my favorite - he loves me and I don’t even have to be doing anything.
