What you can learn by getting out of the way

There are many positive things that can happen when you just get out of the way. Here are a few that I am personally experiencing lately by getting out of the way and not teaching.

1. You see a lot more people! I am amazed by the number of people that are showing up to serve. I love being able to go around encouraging the different groups of people who pour out each Sunday. I also have been able to connect with a number of individuals and families who have just recently been coming to The Bridge.

2. You learn a lot more! In preparation for our Ephesus series I studied Ephesians. I admit I didn’t understand a lot of what I was reading. Then up comes Jon Hietbrink and Paul Smith and I am blown away at how they make these complex thoughts and statements practical and holdable. Jon has brought his medium size bible study (groups of more then 20) skills and implemented them into his teaching. Throwing out discussion questions and asking for feedback. Paul polled a number of our attendees and used the results in his message. When I don’t teach my Spirit is excited because I know I’m going to be fed.

3. You observe a lot more! My mind is more clear because I am not teaching. I noticing things I’ve never noticed before. The things I’m noticing are awesome like signs that I didn’t even know we had and the not awesome like things we need to do away with all together or should be doing but aren’t.

4. You are able to empower more people! In addition to not teaching I also put up a new host/mc/greeter/announcement person and it was awesome! I know I’m putting a lot of exclamation marks out there but none are more deserving then this next one. Cy McMahon rocked! I was laughing so hard. He had a way of communicating that resonated with people and kicked out the info in a way that made it stick. Less of me allows for more of others.

5. You recognize there is so much more! The sooner you get out of the way you the quicker you are able to move onto the next thing. Over the past three weeks I’ve been able to launch our cassion prayer nights, get a mens group started, relaunch our house group, meet with a number of people, plan ahead, rest, and dream. We need to keep dreaming!
