Chicago Ramblings
This has been a crazy good but hard week. I’ve slept great. Something about not being woke up 5 times during the night. It’s been totally brutal though being away from the family. Every once in awhile Jenny will text me a picture of Toby and Lydia that makes my joy increase but my homesickness heighten. I returned the favor to Jenny by texting her different things from IKEA.
Last night I sung the alphabet song that I made up to Toby over the phone before he went to bed.
The other day Jon and I were going down the elevator and I randomly acted out the movie Elf and triggered every floor on the elevator saying, “It’s A Christmas Tree!” The door opens and while we exit a guy runs into the elevator just in time for an enjoyable and scenic trip north.
Yesterday we got on an elevator to go up in a parking garage. We entered the elevator on the 2nd floor and three guys were already on it. Jon leans against the wall when we got on not realizing he leaned against the floor number buttons. The guys made some hilarious noises of disappointment while Jon and I quickly snuck of just a couple floors later. They still had six more stops.
I got some Christmas money from my Grandma and I saved it for this trip knowing that we would eat out a lot. We’ve been ubber wise on what we order. So far we’ve eaten at Wendy’s, Portillio’s, Rock Bottom Brewery, California Pizza, PF Changs, Calvers, Cheesecake Factory and Chipotle. You can also throw in a few Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts for mid afternoon bursts of caffeine.
We went to Willow Creek yesterday. God has used Willow to forever change my life. I’ve been to a dozen conferences there and been introduced to numerous authors, thoughts, and dreams. I took Jon on a tour and showed him where I sat when I first heard Hybels, McManus, Bell, and countless others. I took advantage of Seeds selection of books you don’t normally see.
IKEA was pretty fun as well. I talked to Jenny while there and she asked a good question, “why isn’t IKEA a bigger rage?” Maybe it is but for us who conveniently live 4 hours from the closest one just aren’t included in it.
Bought a homeless guy lunch today. Lawerence seemed like a nice guy. It was enjoyable sharing life with him.

my roommate and i got quite a laugh over your elevator escapades…we watch elf quite often and frequently answer each other’s calls with “buddy the elf, what’s your favorite color?”
i got a message from your wife yesterday…and even a little toby “good morning, laura!” …listened to the message three times. and how much more joyful/hard those messages are for you this week. you guys are just incredible!!! can’t wait to visit in a couple weeks!

I’m so pumped you are coming out to see us and if I have my way you’ll fall in love with Ottumwa and decide to just stay.
